Your support and contributions will enable us to give "E" and others like her a safe home.
Lorna supported herself working for "temp" agencies, without benefits. She feels fortunate with a subsidized senior's apartment. She is not sure where she can go when she needs more support.
Ed: "I am a senior living in Inglewood House. I have volunteered with the Jack Long Foundation since the start and at the Inglewood Community Association since 1967. We need this facility as soon as possible as we are getting too old and fragile for the existing facilities."
Barbara: "I dream of a place where we can have our privacy but still be able to congregate. We can have communal meals that we have all helped to make. There would be 24 hour help available, someone to call on, to help with little things. Home Care could still come to those who need it. We would all contribute to the daily running of this “house”. It would take the onus off each one of us and give us a sense of purpose and an opportunity to contribute, A sharing of experiences can lead to all kinds of opportunities .
I feel these “ units” would make it more comfortable for people to join in who do not feel comfortable in large crowds. It would be necessary to have someone there 24 hours per day. We want to remain as independent as we can and this bit of help would keep us out of nursing homes for quite a while."
We asked our Elders about their priorities... Who else would we ask?
Their voices shaped the Elderhouse brandand will continue to be heard in its operation plan.
It's more than just a building. It's a vision.
It's a whole package.
"Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects." - Dalai Lama
Every dollar contributed helps our first 17 - 23 Elders, and multiplies with Elderhouse duplication.
